West Florida Electric Cooperative offers high-efficiency, slow-recovery, low-wattage electric water heaters to cooperative members as replacements for gas waterheaters.
The following stipulations apply:
The water heater must be installed in the member’s residence. -
Proper installation is required. (The unit must be installed within 14 days).
The Cooperative’s water heater must replace a gas water heater. The water heater is for residential application only. One water heater per household.
The cooperative will give a water heater to any member whose home (new or existing) qualifies for WFEC’s Energy Efficient Home Program. The following stipulations apply: Electric heat pumps with a SEER rating of 11 or higher must be installed in dwellings that meet heat loss and heat gain characteristics or prescribed thermal criteria (features). For new, all electric construction, the allowable heat loss and heat gain is a maximum of 11 BTU’s per square foot. The allowable heat loss and heat gain for improved homes is a maximum of 14 BTU’s per square foot. Heat loss and heat gain is determined by running a “Manual J” load calculation on the home. All homes that meet or exceed the heat loss and heat gain levels can be qualified under the prescriptive method of qualification as well. The prescriptive method requires homes to have seven energy efficient features, not including the electric heat pump or the electric water heater. The allowable heat loss and heat gain, for the prescriptive method, is a maximum of 13 BTU’s per square foot for new homes and a maximum of 17 BTU’s per square foot for improved homes.
Water Heater Purchase Cooperative members that do not qualify for free water heaters can purchase an energy efficient water heater, and have it financed on their electric bill. Please see the following list for sizes and models available. Contact your nearest WFEC office for pricing.
