Beginner's Pressure Canning Class
Thursday, August 20th, 6:00-9:30 p.m., at the Washington County Ag Center, 1424 Jackson Avenue, Chipley
Participants will learn the basics of pressure canning by canning vegetables. Class format is demonstration and some hands-on. Registration fee is $5 and includes class materials. Space is limited. Home Buyer Education Class
Thursday, August 27, 2026, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., at the Jackson County Agriculture Office, 2741 Penn Avenue, Marianna
This course is designed to help you better understand the homebuying process, analyze your personal financial and credit situation, and learn basic home care and maintenance techniques to maintain the value of your home and save money on repairs. This course is open to all participants, from individuals just beginning to those further along in the process. Completion of this course satisfies the homeownership education requirement for the SHIP and USDA Rural Development programs. The Florida Cooperative Extension Service is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency.

Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training
On September 1, there will be a Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) Grower Training hosted at the UF/IFAS Jackson County Extension Office (2741 Penn Ave, Marianna, FL) from 8:15 am - 5:00 pm CST. This is a one-day training to provide growers with knowledge and resources needed to satisfy the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule.
Cost to attend is $40. Upon completion of the training, attendees will receive an official certificate. Registration cost includes training materials, lunch, and refreshments. Whether you’re new to Washington County or have lived here for years, we’d like to share with you how UF/IFAS Extension Washington County can be of service to you! The event will feature informational displays, educational materials, and opportunities for participants to meet with Extension agents on agriculture, natural resources, residential horticulture, family and consumer sciences, and 4-H youth development topics. You’ll learn about our upcoming hands-on workshop and learning experiences in home landscapes, lawn care, gardening, pasture health, weed control, wildlife habitats, 4-H opportunities for young people and volunteers, and housing, health and wellness. Garden to Table Workshop: Fall Gardening
Saturday, September 12 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Jackson County Extension Office, 2741 Penn Ave, Marianna
This is the first session in a 3-part series focused on growing and cooking food from your own garden. In this workshop, we will cover what to do this fall to have a flourishing vegetable garden, including best practices for planting during the fall and winter months. Participants will have the chance to taste vegetables that they can grow at home and take home a variety of seeds to get started. The series will continue with a session on winter herbs and another on temperate fruit. Each workshop is $15 per person or you can register for all three at once and save $10.

Introduction to Cottage Foods in Florida

If you want to learn more about producing food from a home kitchen to sell to the public, this workshop is for you. This workshop will provide information on Florida’s cottage food regulations, labeling requirements, guidance on which foods qualify as cottage foods and food safety considerations. This course is open to all participants, however it is an introduction and designed for those just getting started. Registration is $15 per person.
