Two members of your West Florida Electric Board of Trustees recently earned certifications from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA).
Tim Alford, District 2 Trustee, completed courses for the Board Leadership Certificate (BLC). This is the second-level certification that can be attained after earning the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate. It consists of an advanced curriculum of ten credits earned by taking courses that offer a diverse set of knowledge and skills relevant to governing electric co-ops. He earned this certificate in October 2019 and was presented with his certificate by EVP & CEO, Ty Peel and Board President, Joe Rone in December 2019.
David Tatum, District 1 Trustee, (pictured on next page) has earned his Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate (CCD). CCD is the first level of certification that is earned by taking a curriculum of five fundamental courses that focus on basic governance knowledge and the essential skills required of cooperative trustees. CCD demonstrates a commitment to understand the role and responsibility of a trustee while it prepares them to meet the challenges of facing electric cooperatives now and in the future. He earned this certificate in October 2019 and was presented with his certificate by EVP & CEO, Ty Peel and Board President, Joe Rone in December 2019.
One of the key strengths of the rural electric program is its commitment to education and professional development. The Director Gold Certificate is the hallmark of a committed electric cooperative director, according to NRECA, helping demonstrate commitment to members and the director’s commitment to continuing education. The CCD prepares directors to fulfill their fiduciary duty as elected officials serving on behalf of their membership. The purpose of all NRECA director level education is to prepare directors to make informed business decisions in the boardroom that benefit the co-op and its members.
